The New Gullivers
The New Gullivers
In the 21st Century – the Age of Globalization and Multiculturalism – the world is brought to our doorstep. To some this is refreshing; to others scary and daunting. The image of Gulliver – Jonathan Swift's well traveled and quite maligned character in Gulliver's Travels, serves as a prototype for "lessons learned" from adventure, exploration, and culture clash.
The Old Gulliver bungled and bumbled his way. The "explorer" in our New World must be more informed and more resourceful. But the rewards are vast, on a personal, societal, and global scale. These explorers are The New Gullivers. They're connecting with the world – and "lifting" it. The New Gullivers are The Gulliver Project – in thought, intent and deed.
New World - New Vocabulary (click each to view)~ Accidental Enlightenment
~ Trans-cultural Connection
~ Enlightened Self-Interest
~ Conscientious Capitalism
~ Archimedes' Lever
~ Mindscapes, Soulscapes & Landscapes
~ The Best of Times
The process of becoming aware of the serendipities and synchronicities that can wake us to an empowered life. Accidental Enlightenments are the small and the large “Aha’s” that give richness to our life, and enable us to “make sense of the nonsense.” Accidental Enlightenment is a process, not a goal; a verb, not a noun. Accidental Enlightenment is the piper that leads us to a greater sense of connection with creation, and our mysterious role in it – how we can benefit; how we can serve.
~ Trans-cultural Connection
The vehicle for connecting us to enriching experiences and powerful resources. Trans-cultural Connection refers to the conscious, willing exchange of goods, services, or ideas between individuals, nations, cultures, religions, and institutions; with the implied belief that understanding one another better is in everyone’s best interest. Trans-cultural Connection is as much an attitude as a practice, and can pay dividends even if we never leave our home port.
~ Enlightened Self-Interest
The pursuit of our highest vocational, spiritual, aesthetic and recreational interests. Enlightened Self-Interest means to “follow our bliss,” as mythologist Joseph Campbell said, with the understanding that when we are using our gifts with joy and focus, we automatically serve others. Enlightened Self-Interest is not narcissism, self-absorption, or insularity – how “Old Gulliver!” Enlightened Self-Interest places us very squarely in the world, as strengthening our own “strands” lends to the power of the entire interconnected “web.”
~ Conscientious Capitalism
An emerging blended application of Power Brains, Power Heart and Power Money. Conscientious Capitalism teaches people how to fish through focused resources and education that respect and complement the talents and ambitions of the recipients. Conscientious Capitalism in turn demands accountability, transparency, and sustainability – the keys to economic progress and civic well-being. Conscientious Capitalism recognizes that industry, government, service organizations, religious/spiritual groups and other civic organizations must work together – not in opposition.
~ Archimedes' Lever
Using the right pressure on the right fulcrum to “Lift our World.” Archimedes’ Lever is the principle by which ordinary people can do extraordinary things – if we know how and where and when to apply our talents and resources. Archimedes’ Lever is longer than ever due to the increased reach (or understandings) of technology, travel, communication, healing, and most importantly – the dawning recognition of our interconnectedness.
~ Mindscapes, Soulscapes & Landscapes
The metaphors for personal and collective growth, enabling us to feel better, have more and be more. Mindscapes, Soulscapes and Landscapes are the latitudes and longitudes of the emerging global society, which requires multi-dimensional “travel.” Mindscapes, Soulscapes and Landscapes are a necessary charter for commerce, diplomacy, travel, & communication: they are the mind-heart-body of our New World.
~ The Best of Times
The achievable potential of the global society as individuals and institutions become more aware of our interconnectedness – enabling us all to feel more secure in the world, make better long-term decisions and foster more peaceful relations and productive societies. The Best of Times paradigm recognizes that there are more resources and tools at our disposal than at any time in history to serve us. The Best of Times is not Shangri-La, Nirvana or Utopia – but it can be ours, collectively, as many masters and leaders have told us throughout history: if we choose to make informed decisions – free of fear and dogma – “unto the seventh generation.”
